the problem with the high end job market is that the good jobs are a secret and the only ones to get those good jobs are friends of the ones who already work in the high end realm of things.
but what about talent? just imagine for a second: every job at any level being filled by people who are actually suited for that job. not your friend from college who has a gift for research but you get them the hook-up at your job doing sales. i think that breeds poor productivity and amounts to a rehiring or refurbishing of a whole department at times.
society says work anything you can until you can do better. maybe we should be instill in ourselves the drive to understand purpose. all the years we spend in our twenties searching for the job that gives us what we think is success, only to find out, we have to pull a career change or we just end up becoming casualties of the Bush Regime.
see, people want corporate flights and expense accounts but the fact of the matter is we are not working for our actual purpose. stop losing yourself in the hype of a job or career and, instead, get lost in "that thing" that makes your wheels turn when you see it or hear it or smell it. that VP of marketing that wants to make movies and has a gift for story telling while a movie producer only can sell his ideas because of his gift for marketing. no wonder were in a recession!
stop it.
the economy sucks because people either don't like their jobs or they aren't talented in their job... their just there, killing themselves for a check that isn't worth their house payment... literally!
now would you really consider working and losing your house because the company is going down and you are no longer needed, or would you rather be so highly productive by nature and intuitively resilient and necessary that the company only would go down if they got rid of you because you have immeasurable talent? you say huh?
some may argue everyone doesn't have talent. n some may say that's how it is: you have to know someone and take what you can get.
here's the scoop! employers are usually desperate for employees. they get rid of them to save money usually because it's dipping into their preferred share. usually someone who gets hired by connection is someone who spent more time getting connections than honing their actual craft. the employer hires a person this way because it's quick! someone from the office has put in a good word. there you go. the job is filled.
here is a perfect example in one summary.
i wanted a job in television. i called a friend who had the hook-up. i went to the interview. i got the job at a news magazine show. it was entry level. there were assignment editors there who hadn't even finished high school and some there because of association. i submitted stories when i was supposed to be running errands and got promoted in 2 weeks. i was not an assignment editor or a producer. my gift was finding hot stories and seeing the angle. the actual assignment editors decided what to even pitch to the exec. producer... the show got cancelled.
why?
assignment editors were probably accountants, accountants were probably producers, producers were probably musicians, musicians were probably assignment editors, editors were-well they are usually in their purpose- and the entry level PA with promoter experience (finding the angle, the hot topic etc.) was probably an assignment editor.
